Bridgeport, CT, September 17, 2025 — Optimus Health Care welcomed legislators, corporate partners, and community leaders to its annual Legislative Breakfast, held on Wednesday, September 17, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. The event provided an important forum for dialogue on the future of community health care in Connecticut, focusing on the potential effects of impending Medicaid cuts and Optimus’ ongoing clinic renovation initiatives.
During her opening presentation, Karen Daley, President & CEO of Optimus Health Care, underscored the crucial role Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) play in ensuring access to affordable, high-quality, and culturally sensitive care for more than 42,000 residents across Bridgeport, Stratford, Stamford, and Waterbury.
Daley emphasized that proposed Medicaid reductions could have a devastating impact on low-income families and vulnerable populations, threatening the stability of Connecticut’s health care safety net. She also shared updates on Optimus’ upcoming Community Investment Fund (CIF) Round 8 application, which seeks vital state support for the renovation of the organization’s flagship clinic at 982 East Main Street in Bridgeport.
The planned improvements aim to expand and modernize the OB/GYN, Pediatrics, and Dental Units, ensuring that families continue to receive comprehensive, compassionate care close to home.
“Protecting Medicaid and investing in community health infrastructure is not just about facilities, it’s about preserving access, dignity, and equity in care,” said Daley during her remarks.
Optimus expressed deep gratitude to attending legislators and community members for their continued advocacy and support. The organization also invited attendees and the broader community to learn more about its mission and ongoing projects.
