Job Overview

As a medical assistant for OPTIMUS, you will support and facilitate essential tasks related to patient care. You’ll be providing clinical assistance as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, with the goal of achieving optimal health for the communities we serve.

Your duties will vary depending on the OPTIMUS facility where you work, but patient intake, updates, exam preparation, and administration will be among your main job functions.

Core Responsibilities

Essential medical assistant functions:

  • Conducts initial intake of patients
  • Explores community resources available to meet the clients’ needs
  • Maintains ongoing networking efforts w/community providers in the area
  • Updates patient information
  • Takes patient history & vital signs
  • Prepares patients for exams & treatment
  • Prepares exam rooms with necessary equipment & supplies
  • Assists with scheduling of tests & treatments
  • Assists with administrative tasks as needed
  • Duties of the medical assistant can vary at each clinical site/specialty
Qualifications: Required
  • Positive attitude and a sense of purpose regarding caregiving
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • High standards of ethical and social responsibility
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program
  • Professional medical assistant certification obtained through one of the following agencies: AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT
  • CMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA credential—or be prepared to obtain certification within 90 days if hired
  • Great computer and typing skills
  • Familiarity working with EMR (electronic medical record)
